Entry-level Retina MacBook Pro gets a Rs. 15,000 price cut, top-end MacBook Air price slashed too

Apple has slashed the price of entry-level Retina MacBook Pro and top of the line MacBook Air model.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display with 128GB SSD storage and 8GB RAM alongside 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor gets a hefty Rs. 15,000 price tag and will now retail for Rs. 99,900 compared to the earlier price of Rs. 114,900. Prices of other models remain unchanged at Rs. 134,900 (13"/ 256GB SSD storage), Rs. 152,900 (15"/ 256GB SSD storage) and Rs. 192,900 (15"/ 512GB SSD storage). However, Apple has bumped up the specs on these models, as detailed below.

The 13"/ 256GB model now comes with a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor instead of 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor. Similarly, the model 15"/ 256GB gets a 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor instead of 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. The top-end model gets the most significant jump, from 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor to 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, but, more importantly, doubling the amount of RAM from 8GB to 16GB.

The top-end 13" MacBook Air with 256GB storage and 4GB RAM alongside 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 gets a price cut of Rs. 5,000 and will retail for Rs. 94,900 instead of Rs. 99,900. Prices of other models remain unchanged at Rs. 67,900 (11"/ 64GB SSD storage), Rs. 74,900 (11"/ 128GB SSD storage) and Rs. 81,900 (13"/ 128GB storage).

Apple looks to have quietly discontinued the top of line MacBook Pro (non-Retina). The 15" MacBook Pro powered by 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor alongside 16GB RAM and 512GB storage was earlier selling for Rs.192,900, but is no longer listed on Apple's website.

All changes are in line with company's changes across the globe.
