According to a news this week, Intel has partnered with smartphone manufacturers to introduce Android smartphones in India at costs as low as Rs 7000.
The story which appeared in AndroidOS referred to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI) saying this new smartphone will be coming into the market in mid of the next year 2013.
“The first handset with Lava that we launched was a premium one. We learnt that it was important to have a portfolio and offer choice to the user. We will not have entry-level handsets but our smartphone range will be priced upwards of Rs 7, 000,” said Debjani Ghosh, Intel South Asia Managing Director, Sales and Marketing to the PTI.
The Lava Xolo X900 has been powered with an Intel processor, but most of the smartphones come with ARM processors and the desktop and laptop processor manufacturer is finding ways to foray into new markets for mobile devices. The Intel processors which are known for their battery performance are also known for their inefficient power consumption.
The competition for Intel also comes from Qualcomm, which will be launching affordable smartphones with quad-core processors next year. Intel has also partnered with Google owned Motorola Mobility to introduce smartphones using single-core 2 GHz processor. Currently, only one model uses this processor, the Motorola Razr I.
Intel has already said that it will demonstrate a range of new mobile devices, including smartphones, convertible computers and ultrabooks powered with the Intel chips at the Consumer Electronics Show in early January, 2013.
