Idea launches dual-SIM Zeal with Android 2.3 for Rs. 5,390

Telecom operator Idea Cellular has launched yet another Android smartphone in India in the form of Zeal. Zeal runs on the dated Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread) operating system. It is powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, along with 256 MB of RAM. This phone comes with a microSD Card slot compatible for cards up to 32GB.

Zeal is a dual-SIM smartphone that will be available for Rs. 5,390. The smartphone comes with 3.5-inch touch screen that has a resolution of 320X480 pixels. For camera, there is a 3-megapixel auto-focus rear shooter with digital zoom.

As per the company this smartphone will help them in upgrading their existing 2G users to 3G. Apart from 3G, the other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, A-GPS, and Bluetooth. Zeal comes pre-loaded with apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, Youtube, and Idea TV.

According to Idea Cellular, Zeal smartphone is especially targeted at the youth community comprising of college students and professionals who like to stay connected to social networking sites and access emails on-the-go.

Commenting on the launch, Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular said, "For the past year, Idea has been focused on proliferating 3G in India by developing the entire ecosystem comprising of network coverage, customer service, applications and devices. We understand that the device plays an important role in enhancing service experience for the user, and has been a key component of Idea's 3G growth strategy. Idea Zeal has been affordably priced to suit the pockets of consumers in semi-urban and rural markets and is aimed at upgrading existing 2G users to 3G."

To sweeten the deal, Idea is offering attractive data usage offer for 3G users with the purchase of this smartphone. After purchasing Zeal, a consumer will have to get a recharge of Rs. 261, which will give them 1GB of free 3G data every month for first 3 months, along with a free 3 months subscription of Idea TV.

Apart from Zeal, Idea is also offering four more 3G Android smartphones - Idea Ivory, Idea Aurus, ID 918 and Idea Blade - in the Indian market. The price for range for these smartphones varies between Rs. 5,390 to Rs. 7,992.
