Sony Launches Its Flagship Xperia Z1 For Rs 45,000 In India

Just a day after Samsung’s big launch, Sony has unveiled its latest flagship phone in India. As its name suggests, the Xperia Z1 is a successor to the original Xperia Z. Like most of Sony’s high-end offerings, this phone is dust and water resistant. Provided that all ports and covers are firmly closed, it can be kept under 1.50 metres of water for up to 30 minutes. The Xperia Z1 comes with 5-inch full-HD TFT LCD display with 1920x1080 pixels. The display enhancements involve Sony’s Bravia and Triluminos technology. However, the screen type is basic TFT LCD. We would have loved to see an AMOLED or IPS panel on this one.

Going by the numbers, the Xperia Z1 has to be the fastest phone available in India. It’s powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The Xperia Z1 comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, that can be expanded by up to 64GB via a microSD card. The phone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Earlier showcased at IFA 2013 in Berlin, this smartphone boasts of a 20.7 MP camera sporting a 27 mm wide angle ‘G-Lens’ with a custom-made 1/2.3-type CMOS image sensor, F2.0 aperture, BIONZ for mobile image processing engine, and pulsed LED flash. At least on papers, this is the best camera phone coming from the Android stable. While it’s too early to comment on its performance, it’s safe to assume that Sony is finally ready to compete with other biggies like the Samsung GALAXY S4 and HTC One.

The Xperia Z1 is available in stores across the country at a price tag of Rs 45,000. You can choose between black, white, and purple variants. To attract more customers, Sony India is offering a free flip cover and zero % interest EMI option.
