Samsung unveils mid-range Galaxy Fame with 1GHz processor, Android 4.1




Apart from announcing the Galaxy Young, Samsung has also taken wraps off of another mid segment device. Sporting similar looks to the Galaxy Young, the Galaxy Fame has slightly better specs in comparison.

Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung's TouchWiz UI atop, the Galaxy Fame is a little thinner at 113.2x61.6x11.6 mm, but also heavier at 120.6 grams. This device also flaunts a bigger 3.5-inch display with an HVGA resolution (320x480).

The smartphone comes with an upgraded 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front camera as well in comparison to its younger sibling.

Under the hood, though the 1GHz processor is the same as the Galaxy Young, the RAM seems to have been lowered to 512MB. Internal storage is 4GB with up to 64GB of expansion. It comes with the same 1,300mAh battery. 

Connectivity wise, the device includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and optional NFC as well that is missing in the Galaxy Young. NFC allows easy sharing via S Beam with other Samsung smartphones by simply touching the back panels of two different devices.

The Galaxy Fame also comes pre-loaded with Samsung's Apps store, Game Hub Lite, S Cloud service, Samsung Kies, ChatON messenger and a host of other Google-related apps. The TouchWiz UI includes Intuitive Motion UI that helps users receive smart alerts, shake their device to update and also turn it over to mute. 

The Galaxy Fame will be available in Pearl White and Metallic Blue colours. Like the Galaxy Young, this device will also have a dual-SIM variant depending on its launch markets.

The company's other device dubbed as the Galaxy Young is also a mid-range offering from Samsung. It features a 3.27-inch HVGA TFT display that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It comes with a 3-megapixel rear camera and is powered by a 1GHz processor alongside 768MB RAM. There's 4GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot with support for up to 64GB. It measures 58.6x109.4x12.5 mm and weighs 112 grams.

Transparent smartphones coming in 2013: Polytron

Think transparent smartphones are futuristic? Not really. For, if Taiwan-based Polytron has its way, we will soon be holding a transparent smartphone. Polytron, which works on display technologies, has unveiled a smartphone prototype with a transparent body. A company exec has also claimed that users will see the arrival of transparent glass phone by the end of this year.  The company's prototype is manufactured using glass that is light in weight and features a transparent screen and body. Samsung Galaxy S II Plus surfaces online for Rs. 22,900

Samsung seems to gearing up to launch Samsung Galaxy S II Plus in India. The smartphone is already listed on Infibeam.com for Rs. 22,900. The website is also claiming to ship the device within seven business days. Samsung Galaxy S II Plus sports a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x800) Super AMOLED Plus display as seen in the earlier Galaxy S II.
