Sony Xperia J gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update ahead of schedule

Sony has started rolling out Jelly Bean update for its Xperia J smartphone. Sony users from around the world, including India, are reporting getting this update. The update will be rolled out over-the-air (OTA) and bears the build number 11.2.A.0.21. However, in case you do not get a notification, then you can also connect the smartphone to PC and update via PC Companion Software and Sony Update Service tool.

The update should come as a pleasant surprise to Xperia J users as Sony had originally shared that Sony Xperia P, Sony Xperia J, Sony Xperia go will receive the Android 4.1 upgrade "from the end of March". In that respect, Sony has delivered ahead of schedule.

Sony Xperia J is the latest Sony smartphone to get bestowed with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) goodness after Xperia T, Xperia TL and Xperia V.

Android Jelly Bean will bring new features like Google Now, offline voice typing, expandable notifications and more, including performance improvements credited to Google's "Project Butter".

The Xperia J was released alongside the Xperia V and Xperia T smartphones in October and came with a price tag of Rs. 18,399.

The device is 9.2mm thick and has a 4-inch (854x480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display with gorilla glass coating atop. The device has a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera.

On the inside, the device packs in a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM7227A processor with 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage and 32GB of expandable memory with microSD. It comes with a 1,750 mAh battery. The connectivity features include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, DLNA and A-GPS.

There are speculations being made that Sony Xperia TX may be next in line to get the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) but there is no official word available regards to the same.

Sony had originally announced that the Xperia TX will get the update alongside Xperia T and Xperia V.

Sony has recently launched its flagship smartphones - Xperia Z and Xperia ZL in India and these smartphones are expected to be available starting March 12.

Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL features a 5-inch full-HD display (1920X1080). The smartphone runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Internally, it packs in a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. For camera, there is a 13-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera.

The Xperia Z is IP55 and IP57 certified, making it water and dust resistant and is priced at Rs. 38,990. The Xperia ZL, does not have these features and will be available for Rs. 36,990.

Transparent smartphones coming in 2013: Polytron

Samsung Galaxy S II Plus surfaces online for Rs. 22,900

Samsung seems to gearing up to launch Samsung Galaxy S II Plus in India. The smartphone is already listed on Infibeam.com for Rs. 22,900.
