Karbonn launches 5.9″ dual SIM Tablet Phone

Karbonn Mobiles has launched the world’s first 5.9-inch smartphone – Karbonn A30 TA Fone. The big screen smartphone is almost an inch closer to the 7-inch tablet category. The Android based smartphone from Karbonn supports dual SIM capabilities. The A30 will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. So much for a phone that even crosses the “phablet” mark.

The Karbonn A30 will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor. The smartphone features an 8MP primary camera with auto focus at the back. The phone will ship with a 2500 mAh battery. Karbonn will ship the phone with a number of pre-embedded apps including – Facebook, WhatsApp, PayTM, Saavn amongst others.

From the press release:

“Redefining the Indian mobile eco-system with the introduction of Karbonn A30 – Ta Fone which opens up a hybrid smartphone category in the country, Shashin Devsare, Executive Director, Karbonn Mobiles says, “By devising the Karbonn A30 – Ta Fone, our endeavour is to form the world’s first 5.9” screen smartphone which blurs the differentiation between a Tablet and a Smartphone and creates a hybrid category of devices which is sure to see a lot of buzz in times to come.”.”

Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Note II currently is a market leader in the “phablet”(tablet + phone) category. Karbonn’s only USP here would be their price tag which hasn’t been announced as yet. But it will definitely be competitive.

  • 8-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED flash
  • 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera
